2014 Samsung TV given a new app written from its own firmware

A 2014 Samsung TV with no app store now runs an app Claude Code wrote after reading the set's firmware and a capture of the target site.

A 2014 Samsung smart TV with no working app store now runs an app it never shipped with. The set’s browser can’t open modern HTTPS sites, so it was stuck with nothing useful to do.

João Paulo gave Claude Code the TV’s firmware and a capture of the site he wanted to reach. Claude went through both, wrote a TV app from scratch and built a Docker bridge so the old set could talk to the modern web. The post doesn’t say which site or service the app is for, and there’s no code link.

If you want to try something similar, start by getting hold of your own TV’s firmware, and expect it to take a while. The post and a photo of the result are on João Paulo’s X account.
