Offline AI beaver chatbot on a Raspberry Pi 5

Hans is a small AI beaver you talk to by typing. He answers on a screen, and he does it all offline: the language model, Gemma 4, runs locally on a Raspberry Pi 5, so there’s no internet connection and no cloud service involved.

The builder, vlady, says they had no idea about hardware and made the whole thing with Claude Code. The post calls it the MVP of a wider beaver project and shows it working in a short portrait video. It doesn’t give a parts list, a cost or any details of the software, and there’s no code link.

If you want to try something similar, a Pi 5 and a local model runner are the obvious place to start. The video is in vlady’s post on X.
